Eric Sogard is currently the only national team player with experience from MLB. And it now seems that Czech fans will get to enjoy him much more as the player himself suggested in an interview with Martin Claus.
In the interview Sogard mentioned he talked to the team manager Pavel Chadim about an option to play in European Championship. „If it’s possible I’d like to play in September,“ said American with Czech passport.

To get some play time he could even join an Extraliga team. „I was thinking of playing the month before the tournament, get some at bats, get ready for playoff and European Championship,“ revealed Sogard. „If it works out then certainly. It would be fun.“
It is certainly a good news for Czech fans. To have a player with 815 MLB games in Extraliga would certainly bring people to the stands. The only question is which team would Sogard played for in Czech Republic. We won’t likely know until World Baseball Classic is over.
