College Baseball: Martin Zelenka is the Player of the Month

College baseball in USA keeps going on the full throttle as April marks the end of the regular season for the school from the lower divisions.

And the beginning of the week brought an exciting news for the Czech fans as UNC Wilmington announced the best athletes for March. In the men’s category it was Czech baseball player Martin Zelenka who took the top spot. Unfortunately, the rest of the week didn’t go as planned for him, since coaches didn’t start him in any of the games. He came from the bench in three games and got three at bats. His best game was against Hofstra, where his double batted in a run to change the score to 5-2 and a few moments later he reached the home base for the sixth run.

Lukáš Pacal played in the last game of the series against College of Southern Nevada. There he kept on the mound for 6 innings where he allowed 9 hits and struck out 3 batters. His opponent scored 5 runs against him, but due to errors, only 2 were earned. Since Arizona Western College lost 3-9 Czech pitcher earned his 3rd loss of the season.

Aleš Zhao played for Minnesota West in the four game series against Century College. This time he didn’t have a good series, as he ended up hitless with only one walk. His teammates also had a rough time since they only scored 5 runs in the series.

On the other hand Jan Pospíšil had another successful week. First, he batted in 4 runs against Lenoir CC as his team won 12-3. He then had 5 hits, 4 runs and 6 RBI in a three game series against Richard Bland. In the last game of the series he even blasted a homerun, his second of the season. Pitt CC improved their record to 14-5 and solidified their hold on the second place in the standings. They are currently one win behind Brunswick, the opponent they will play next.
