Coaches of women’s national team took advantage of the Easter weekend for the preparation. The team took part in the tournament in Šumperk with three other teams.
Beside the women’s team we could also see the U15 teams of Arrows Ostrava, Klasik Frýdek-Místek, and hosts Cannibals Šumperk. In the end, they came through without a loss, with the toughest game coming in the finals against Arrows, which WNT won 9-8 thanks to a walkoff hit by Silva Hanzalová.
„It is a tournament, which could be slightly tougher, since we won all the games. On the other hand, it shows the girls really improved when compared to the previous team,“ said the national team manager Richard Kania before the finals.
The national team will play European Championship on the home field in Hluboká nad Vltavou. Before that they should also play a few more games. „We will try to play some games in May and June. Be it in Prague, or wherever there is a willing U15 team. We then have a camp at Hluboká, 14 days before the tournament,“ said Kania.
Coaches invited some of the players for try-outs, some of which were to be cut by the end of the tournament. „We will cut a couple of girls. The last decision will come after the camp at Hluboká. Since we play 4 games at the Championship, we can take 20 players. But I think we will make due with 18, even so there will be players, who won’t play,“ wraps up the manager.
European Championship will be played between 14th and 17th of August and beside the Czech Republic, we will see the teams from France, Great Britain, and Nederland. Czechs will be defending silver medals, with France doing the same for the gold.
