Trnava defended the title in girl’s tournament
Bratislava hosted another edition of the international U11 girl’s tournament under the name „Baseball is for Girls, too“ on Saturday. Trnava Panthers planned to defend the first place from the tournament which took place in autumn.
And Trnava girls were able to do just that in a tournament which now grew to five teams from Slovakia and Austria. They went through the tournament without a loss and showed off their skill. The second place went to GoodSports, which is based in Bratislava, with International 25 with the players from Austria and Slovakia, taking the third place. Fans also saw Slovakia Panthers who will play at SuperCup in the Czech Republic at the end of the month.
This edition also brought prominent people from across Slovak baseball. The games were umpired by Mojmír Jankovič, who is one of the best referees in Europe and up till recently was a head of Slovak Baseball Federation. Along with Roman Matulík the two referees traveled to Brno, where they refereed the game of Champions Cup. The first pitch was thrown by Megan Naylor from American Embassy, with 1969 European Championship athletics bronze medalist Mária Mračnová and chairman of the Slovak Olympic Committee Vladimír Miller both in attendance.
„It was a great day on Saturday. It outgrew my expectations despite a team cancelling their participation two days before the tournament. The weather was great, kids enjoyed it and girls showed great plays. They played fantastically and they looked like they enjoyed it a lot. That is important so that we can support them in the sport. So they know they are welcomed in it,“ said the tournament organizer and the founder of Bratislava Panthers Zuzana Zambojová.
„The thanks goes to Zuzana Zambojová for the organization. We currently have the tools and technology to teach the kids to throw, bat, swing. We can measure watts, angels, speed, anything. But you can‘ teach one thing. That’s the thrill and the excitement. With that a bow to Zuzana, because this is a thing that you cannot buy. What I see is a pure joy of the game and I’m glad baseball can bring joy to everyone independently of their gender and origin,“ commented SBF chairman Martin Černák.
Tournament Baseball is for Girls, too now found its place in the baseball calendar as the organizers already started to plan the third edition, which should likely take place at the end of November. We already know of the interest from the Czech Republic who promises to bring a skilled team and give Trnava run for their money.
