Menšík’s NC State entered the College World Series with a win

College World Series started in USA on Saturday, with eight best teams in the nation fighting for the title. NC State, with Vojtěch Menšík is one of them. And young Czech wasn’t missing from the starting lineup for the game against Standford. With this, he made the history when he became the first Czech to play in NCAA College World Series.

NC State started well against the favorite from Standford, as Johnny Butler scored a two run homerun in the first inning. An inning later, Menšík got to bat as well. Czech got on base after a Standford catcher’s error and later in the inning, he scored his first run of the game on the hit by Tyler McDonough. NC State increased their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning. Menšík reached the base on error again.

NC State starter Reid Johnston kept his team in game for six innings, where he only allowed one run. Standford was able to mount up the offense against him in the seventh inning, where they loaded the bases and added two run. Closer Evan Justice then stepped on the mound, even though his job wasn’t easy. Menšík’s error which resulted in a run instead of the third out complicated the situation a little bit.

Wolfpack started the eight and the ninth inning the same way. In the eight it was a double by Menšík and in the ninth a double by Tyler McDonough. While they were not able to capitalize on the lead of double in the eight inning, ninth went much better for NC State. And Menšík was once again part of the success, when he increased his team’s lead to 10-4 with a two RBI hit.

Evan Justice had the job of closing the game. Another error, this time by Jose Torres posed some complications, but Standford then ran into a double play on offensive interference. Standford coach tried to challenge the call, but the video referee confirmed the decision.

This was the first win against Standford in the history of NC State. They, however, only played each other two times in the past. Wolfpack will play their next game against the winner of Arizona-Vanderbilt game.
