Don Newcombe, jeden z nejlepší nadhazovačů Dodgers všech dob, se dnes bohužel zařadil po bok hráčů jako byli Jackie Robinson nebo Roy Campanella. Ve věku 92 let zemřel po dlouhodobé nemoci.
Newcombe je vítěz Světové série 1955, čtyřnásobný člen All-Star týmu, nejužitečnější hráč National League 1956 a držitel ocenění CY Young ve stejném roce.
