First League: Blesk Jablonec to play in the finale
The second semifinal series of the Czech First Baseball League between Bučovice and Jablonec was played a week after the first series. Before that, however, Pelikans Bučovice had to deal with a positive Covid-19 test.
In the end, the series lasted three games. First two were played in northern Bohemia, from where the teams traveled to southern Moravia, with the series tied 1-1. Despite the teams taking one game each, we weren’t far from seeing the series winner on Saturday. However, Pelikans managed to turn the tide and snatched the win in the 9th inning of the first game. Bučovice entered the 9th inning trailing 0-3, but in the end they managed to score 5 runs to win the game. The second game was dominated by Jablonec, who won 15-2.
The winner of the series was to be decided in the third match. The fans had to wait 3 innings to see the first run, after Radek Šulc scored a two run homerun. It was Matyáš Fous in the following inning who got a RBI to increase the away team’s lead to 3-0. Home team waited till 7th inning to celebrate their first run, but Petr Jareš was able to blast the baseball behind the fence, scoring 2RBI. Jablonec responded in the following inning, scoring a run after the error in the defense. This run turned out to be crucial, when Pelikans only managed to score a run in 9th inning. With the score 4-3 for the away team, Jablonec grabbed the win in the series.
Interestingly, both Blesk Jablonec and Hluboká nad Vltavou who will play in the finale of the First League, managed to earn the promotion to Extraliga next year.
