College Baseball: Menšík will play World Series

Summer season started in college baseball, even if spring one is not yet finish. The grand finale will be College World Series and for the first time in the history there will be Czech player playing in it.

NC State had to beat Arkansas, the best team in NCAA standings, to get their shot at College World Series. And the first game didn’t go well for NC State, when they lost 21-2. The series was played in best of three system, so NC State couldn’t slip again. However, Arkansas was leading 2-0 at the beginning of the second game and everything seem to point to their victory. In the third inning Tyler McDonough sent Vojtěch Menšík home kickstarting NC State offense. An inning later Wolfpack added three homeruns, one of them by Menšík and suddenly, NC State was ahead 5-2. They kept the lead forcing the third game.

And the last game was very narrow, both team entered the last inning leveled at 2-2. NC State shortstop Jose Torres then blasted a solo homerun, silencing all Arkansas fans. While favorite still had their half of the inning, NC State closer Evan Justice didn’t let anyone on base and his team could celebrate advancing to the World Series. Wolfpack will play there only third time in the history and for the first time since 2013. Thanks to Vojtěch Menšík, this will be the first time Czech baseball has a player there.

College World Series starts on 19th of June and NC State will play against Standford. The whole schedule is available here.
