EXL: Jakub Winkler became the youngest Draci player in history
Czech baseball fans probably know David Winkler. It would seem that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree and soon we might be hearing more from his son Jakub.
Only fifteen year old Jakub Winkler had this debut in Extraliga for Třebíč on 24th of April in 15 years, 8 months and 29 days. Despite this, he wasn’t the youngest player to play for Nuclears in the league. Miroslav Křivánek was 18 days younger when he debuted in 2017. On 23rd of May Jakub Winkler became the youngest player in Nuclears history to have a hit, however.
At the end of May, young catcher returned to Draci lineup and in his first game he broke two records. First, he became the youngest Draci player to play for them in Extraliga. In the past, there wasn’t any player younger than 16 years to play for the team. Jakub was 15 years, 10 months and 6 days old. Beside that he also had 2 hits and he became the youngest player to have a hit for them in Extraliga game.
The youngest player to play in Extraliga with a hit was Jan Kosina. In 2004 he had two hits as a 14 year old for SB Rýchory. Kosina is currently the only player in Extraliga history to have a hit before his 15th birthday.
