EXL: Kubina and Minařík players of the week eight
Second to last playing week of the regular season is behind us and as in the previous weeks, ČBA let fans to vote for the best pitcher and the player of the week. This week, the awards were taken by two players who haven’t got the awards before.
Michal Kubina‘s debut in Extraliga came in 2009 at 29 years old, where he played 19 games for Patriots Liberec. Due to financial difficulties, club only played one season in the top league and the same went for Kubina who moved to play second league with Jablonec. He returned to Extraliga this year and the series against Hroši went exceptionally well for him. He especially took over the last game of the series, where he scored 3 HR. Thanks to his performance, he became first Jablonec player to take Player of the Week award.
Marek Minařík has his best season in Extraliga so far, after he improved on his career records in probably all statistics. One of those is number of strikeouts in a game, where he threw 17 K in the first game against Blansko. With this performance, he leveled the best record for the Czech born player (recently held by Jan Novák) and so it’s no wonder he took Pitcher of the Week award.
