Menšík’s NC State beat 2020 champions Vanderbilt
College World Series continued on Monday, and the game between NC State and Vanderbilt was likely of the most interest to Czech fans.
Vanderbilt celebrated the championship in College World Series last year and they didn’t hide their ambitions to repeat the deed this year either. Furthermore, Jack Leiter, who is #3 MLB prospect according to MLB Pipeline and some scouts regard him as #1 draft pick this year, started on the mound. Leiter showed why expectations run high for him, when he threw 8 innings and had 15 SO.

However, NC State had their own hero on the mound in Sam Highfill, who only allowed 2 hits to Vanderbilt in 7.1 IP. Closer Evan Justice then added last 5 outs, earning his 13th save on the season. NC State was leading then, after solo HR by Terrell Tatum sent them ahead in the fifth inning. It turned out this was the only run in the game.

Czech Vojtěch Menšík was one of only four NC State players who had hit on Leiter. He caught an eye of the fans with his defensive performance as well, when he showed likely his best play in the game in the first inning.

NC State became the first team in the history to beat #1 NCAA team (Arkansas) and reigning champions (Vanderbilt). NC State will now have a few days break and they will play on Friday against the winner of Vanderbilt – Standford game. If they win, they will play in the finale, which is played in best of three system. If they were to loose, they will have a makeup game against the same opponent.
