PBW: Czech senior team narrowly lost to Spain in a wild game
The last Thursday game saw Czech senior team play against Spain. The game marked the end of the group stage in 40th year of Prague Baseball Week.
The game for the winner of Group A saw first runs scored in the first inning, when Yancarlo Franco blasted a two run homerun behind the fence. Czechs didn’t give up, however, and they slowly started to turn the score their way. At the beginning of bottom of the fifth inning, they were winning 5-4.
Lukáš Hlouch substituted Ondřej Furko on the mound in the fourth inning and Spanish took advantage of the change, when they scored three runs in the fifth inning. Czech batters didn’t shy away, however, and they were always chasing Spanish. Both teams also made an unusually large number of errors, 9 together.
In the eight inning, after Jakub Hajtmar’s double, Czech came one run away from their opponent. However, Eduardo Miliani striked out all three Czech batters in the last inning, leading his team to a narrow 9-10 win.
Spain will play Czech U18 in the semifinals on Friday, while Czech senior team will face Czech U23 again.
