Champions Cup: Arrows lost to Amsterdam despite heroic performance

Ostrava welcomed Champions Cup on Tuesday, and Czech representative in Arrows Ostrava played their first game against tournament favorite L&D Amsterdam.

Arrows didn’t start the game well, when Sicnarf Loopstok scored a three run homerun in the first inning.

But second inning looked rather different. Arrows loaded the bases and after a wild pitch Petr Čech scored their first run. In that moment nobody knew we would witness something rare. Ostrava players scored 4 HR in a row. Three of them even came from three consecutive pitches. In a long MLB history something similar only happened three times, for Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006 and 2007 and for Cincinnatti Reds in 2019.

Arrows starter Alec Lemmon only allowed 4 runs in six innings and he gave his teammates good platform for the win. He was substituted by Matěj Satoria in seventh inning and visitors took advantage. First, they leveled the score at 5-5, only to get ahead in the eight inning after two homeruns.

Ostrava only had half an inning to at least level the score. And they didn’t start wrong. Radim Novotný got to second base after a defensive error only to later score Arrows sixth run. However, Shairon Martis then threw two strikeouts and finished the game. Despite the loss, Arrows played well and will be able to enter the following games with confidence.
