SBL: Apollo dominated Angels in the first championship title game
Slovak Baseball League saw the first game of the final series being played in Bratislava on Saturday, when Apollo Bratislava hosted Angels Trnava.
Current Slovak champions, Bratislava, entered the game better, taking the lead in the first inning after a triple from Michal Ešmír. Ešmír followed his hit with a run when Alexander Václavík batted him in.
But Trnava didn’t give up and they leveled the score in the following inning. After a series of four successive hits, three of which were doubles, Trnava scored two runs. They were close to taking the lead, when they managed to load the bases without an out. However, Apollo defense was able, helped by a double play, to stop the opponent’s attack and Angels finished second inning with two runs.
The leveled score didn’t last long, however. In the bottom of the second inning Apollo stepped up and scored eight runs. Fans at the field could also see inside-the-park homerun from Tomáš Borároš.
After a triple from Alexander Václavík, Apollo added three more runs in the fifth inning. Václavík finished the game with 6 RBI and only missed a homerun to Cycle.
An inning later, Apollo loaded the bases with two outs to see Matej Rudohradský blast a grand slam homerun to finish the game, as the score difference exceeded 15 runs.
Bratislava club entered their campaign for the title in the best way possible, taking the first win in the series. The series now moves to Trnava, where the next game will be played on Sunday.
