SBL: BK Apollo Bratislava won tenth title
Third game of the final series of Slovak Baseball League could determine the Slovak champions for 2021 season as Apollo Bratislava entered the series winning 2-0.
Bratislava entered the game at the home field better than their opponent, thanks to RBI single from Alexander Václavík. In the third inning, however, it was Trnava who took the lead with two runs. First Matej Grendža-Donský batted in Markus Racík. Then Igor Jankovič’s RBI sent Angels ahead.
Narrow lead didn’t last long. Home team loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning and after a walk to Noga and Repaský’s hit, Bratislava took the 4-2 lead.
In the fourth inning, Trnava, also thanks to a defensive error, leveled the score at 4-4. This also didn’t last long, when Alexander Václavík batted in Adam Zacko in the following half inning and Bratislava was winning 5-4.
The back and forth game continued, when Trnava leveled the score again in the sixth inning. Home team substituted their starter Martin Gieci, sending in Adam Zacko. Visitors also decided to substitute their starter in the following half of the inning, when Matej Grendža-Donský came in for Tomáš Biskorovajný. Grendža-Donský was unable to halt Apollo batters and after a series of walks, Bratislava scored five runs.
This seemed to be the last straw which Trnava couldn’t respond to. Bratislava added five more runs in the eight inning taking the third win in the series. The win also meant the end of SBL final series and the title for Apollo.
Bratislava can celebrate their tenth title in the history of the competition, which marks them as the second most successful team in SBL. Their final opponent Angels Trnava currently hold thirteen titles. Bratislava won eight titles in a row, when they beat Trnava in every series.
