U23 European Championship: Czechs beat Ukraine 15-0
Friday game between Czech Republic and Ukraine was important not only because winning would give Czechs chance to end fifth, but it would also mean they wouldn’t need to worry about the demotion.
While in the first inning there were no runs scored on either side, in the bottom of the second Czechs put their offensive power on full display. They batted around against Ukrainian starter and scored five runs, taking the lead they would hold for the remainder of the game.
Šimon Blažek who started on the mound, only allowed one hit, which came in the third inning. But it wasn’t enough for Ukraine to score.
Czechs continued in their good performance in the third inning when Daniel Ondroušek increased their lead with a solo homerun. Matěj Vlach then scored another, when he was batted in by Martin Zelenka.
The fourth inning went even better, when Czechs loaded the bases without an out. Ukraine tried to stop them, substituting pitchers multiple times, but nothing helped. Czechs scored 8 runs and ended the game early.
Czech team now has two wins in the group battling for 5th – 8th place and they are close to finishing at the top.
