EC: Czechs dominated Croatia and will play for the fifth place
Czech Republic played the game against Croatia in Torino on Friday. The winner of the game would play for the fifth place and the loser for the seventh place.
Even before the game started, it was clear the game wouldn’t be an easy one. Croatia, with seven naturalized players, was able to beat Germany and advanced from the second spot in the group. They lost 5-8 to Italy in quarterfinals, however.
And the first inning, showed just how tough the game could be, when Croatia took 2-0 lead after hits from Phillip Smith and Ronald Anthony Krsolovic. Czech responded in the bottom of the second inning with Vojtěch Menšík’s solo homerun.
An inning later was even more positive for Czechs. First Jakub Hajtmar and Martin Schneider reached the base, only to score after Matěj Hejma’s homerun. This was also the third homerun of the tournament for Eagles Praha batter.
The homerun seemed to have energized Czech batters, who increased their lead in the following innings. In the fifth inning they even batter around and scored 8 runs.
Czech coaches substituted Ondřej Satoria in the sixth inning and sent in Filip Čapka. Satoria threw 5 innings, allowing 2 runs and adding 11 SO.
In the sixth inning, Czechs added two more runs, increasing the run difference to 15 runs and applying mercy rule. Czech Republic will play their next game on Friday at 20:30 against Great Britan.
