EC: Czechs lost 11-1 to Netherlands in the second game
The evening game in beautiful city of Avigliana saw Czech Republic face Netherlands. The winner of the game would most likely finish the first in the group stage.
Czechs started with Marek Minařík on the mound. While he striked out three batters in the first inning, Netherlands still managed to take the lead, after Ray-Patrick Didder batted in Bernadina with a double.
In the third inning Filip Čapka substituted Minařík, but it wasn’t a good start for the young pitcher. Netherlands scored two runs on Čapka after a hit from Sharlon Schoop. An inning later a three run homerun from Ray-Patrick Didder increased the Netherlands lead to 6-0.
Czech batters couldn’t score against Shairon Martis for a long time. They had to wait till the bottom of the fourth inning for a solo homerun from Matěj Hejma. Unfortunately, this was all the scoring Czechs did in the game. On the other hand Netherlands increased their lead to final 11-1.
Czech team was unable to repeat the win against Netherlands that they achieved at the last championship. Czech Republic currently has 1 win and 1 loss. They will face Slovakia, where they are heavy favorite, in the last game of the group stage.
