WC U23: Czech team needs to deal with accommodation issues

Even before the the World Championship started, the first problem reared its ugly head. Czech team needs to deal with a rather peculiar accommodation situation in Mexico. Based on our information, the hotel, where the team is sleeping, doesn’t conform to standards placed on such events.

It would seem that World Baseball and Softball Confederation placed some of the teams to what can be generously described as a motel, that is far from the quality player accommodation. Players have to sleep with different kinds of bugs (mostly cockroaches) in their beds and even drunk neighbors living next door. The security of the accommodation is also not grand. The issue is further intensified by the fact that teams play the tournament in a bubble and are only able to stay at the stadium or in their rooms.

ČBA chairman Petr Dietrich confirmed he knows about the situation and that he’s trying to deal with it along with WBSC. “The accommodation is provided by the organizers, so WBSC didn’t expect there would be any issues,” said the chairman. “We are trying to communicate with WBSC, but we are giving the priority to deal with the situation to the team in Mexico.”

The issue doesn’t only concern Czech team, but also other Mexico opponents. Germany should be housed at the same place. We are hoping Czech team will be able to get a much better accommodation.
