EXL: Štěpán Havlíček loaned to Hluboká
Previous season’s Extraliga newcomer from southern Bohemia signed another player to boost their roster. After Scott Mulhearn Hluboká got Blansko’s utility player Štěpán Havlíček on loan.
When he was sixteen, Štěpán Havlíček was considered one of the brightest talents of Czech baseball and as a first player in Olympie Blansko’s history he signed a professional contract with a MLB team, when he caught interest of Tampa Bay Rays. From 2010 till 2013 he played in the MiLB, however the last year was cut short due to arm injury. The injury halted Havlíček’s career and after a recovery he didn’t get a chance to play in USA again. He returned to baseball in 2017, wearing Blansko’s colors again and since then he threw 228.1 innings with 4.41 ERA and 160 SO in Czech top league.
Beside pitching, Havlíček can also play in the outfield, even if his numbers there are not staggering with .182/.213/.098, while he’s still waiting for his first Extraliga homerun.
