Europe: Inaugural French Women’s Open starts in a few weeks
Despite a lack of information, we already know the tournament will be played between 16th and 18th of April in French Valenciennes. Thanks to Belles Baseball, current United Kingdom league champions, it will be an international event, which will offer a lot of interesting games for the fans of the women’s baseball.
There will be five teams participating. Beside Belles, four French teams will also played. GOP (players Vauréal, Evry-Courcouronnes , Gif-sur-Yvette and Montigny-le-Bretonneux), Normandie, Hauts de France and Angels (players of Ermont, Domont, PUC, Colombes and Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert). While France doesn’t have a national women’s baseball league in the way the United Kingdom does, there are several local options for the women to play.
Despite being behind (16th) Netherlands (13th in WBSC ranking), it is France who is currently the reigning European women’s champion, when they beat Netherlands in the 2019 finale. While the roster was not published, we will likely see several of the players from the European Championship roster. Belles Baseball, who dominated their league, will also field several players who have a high probability of playing for the national team, who will play European Championship for the first time this summer, where they will also face Czech Republic.
