EXL: Eagles took their first win in a record-breaking game

There were three games supposed to be played on Friday. Unfortunately, for the second week in a row, the weather allowed only one game to be played.

But the conditions at Krč weren’t ideal either, as the rain was falling to some degree throughout the entire game. It didn’t stop the starting pitchers to put on a show, however. In the first few innings batters on each side were being striked out left and right.

We had to wait till the third inning to see the first run, and it was the visitors from Technika who took the 1-0 lead. They were helped by dropped ball by Robert Regner in the outfield. Home team managed to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, when Jan Výbora sent Martin Červenka home. The situation didn’t sit well with the visitors as it seemed their catcher tagged the runner before he reached the home base.

Parker Thode, pitching for Technika, had a much better game than the week before. However, he had to bow down before Martin Červenka, who gave Eagles the 4-1 lead with his second homerun of the season. Thode, however, left the game on a positive note, when he striked out 10 batters in 5 innings.

But as impressive as Thode was, Tomáš Duffek still topped him. He remained in the game for 6 innings, allowing only 5 hits and walking 2 batters. The only run from Technika was due to a defensive error. Furthermore, Duffek striked out 12 batters.

Technika fielded Luise Rengel on the mound in the seventh inning, however, he didn’t have his day. First three batters he faced got on bases for Šimon Blažek’s base clearing triple increasing Eagles lead. Blažek then scored himself after a hit from Homolka.

The game then looked as good as decided, but Technika managed to score 3 runs in the ninth inning. It was partially thanks to Jan Havíř, who came in for injured Mário Gottschall, as he got his first Extraliga hit. Technika didn’t manage to finish the comeback and so the first game of the series goes to Eagles. The 8-4 win was also the first of the season for the Prague team.

The pitchers of both teams dished out 31 strikeouts, tying current Extraliga record from 2016.
