EXL: Fourth week’s Player of the Week awards were dominated by Hluboká
The fans got to vote for the best Pitcher and Batter of the Week in Czech Extraliga for the fourth time. This time they picked duo from Sokol Hluboká.
The best offensive player was picked by a narrow margin of 51% of the votes. Martin Mužík took the award by beating Tomáš Chadim. Mužík was the go-to man in Sokol’s wins against Hroši Brno. He decided the first game with a walk-off hit. In the second game he blasted a three run homerun in the first inning and finished the series with 6 hits and 5 RBI. We are not certain whether Mužík was helped by being named Martin, but it would seem batters with this first name are destined to take Batter of the Week award this year.
Pitcher of the Week voting was much more decisive. It was taken by New Zealander James Boyce who said farewell to Extraliga with a fantastic performance. In the win against Hroši he earned a complete game shutout only allowing 3 hits and striking out 9 batters. In his fourth start on Sokol’s mound he added his 3rd win of the season. This is the second weekly award for Boyce as he also took one in the first week of the season.
