EXL: Martin Pernička and Luis Rengel are the Players of the Week

We know two new names to get Player of the Week award after the third Extraliga week. This time it’s Martin Pernička from Draci Brno and Luis Rengel from Technika Brno.

It is the first award of the kind for only twenty one year old Pernička. He had 7 hits and 4 RBI against Arrows, also adding his first homerun in Extraliga. This helped him increase his WAR to 0.9, giving him the first spot among Draci players and the third spot in Extraliga. Thanks to Pernička Draci became the first team to have at least two players awarded.

Pitcher of the Week award goes to Luis Rengel who received the award for the second time in his career. The first time was in the fourth week of the previous season, when he played for Olympia Blansko. This time it was Rengel’s performance against Tempo that caught fans‘ eye, as he pitched 9 innings and only allowed 1 run, while striking out 17 batters. The only other time Technika player managed to have a similar performance since 2016 was Joe Rivera in 2018. Rengel also beat his personal best from the previous year where he threw 13 SO in 2 weekend games.
