Kelsie Whitmore will play for Staten Island FerryHawks
Only a few weeks after Kentucky Wild Health Gnomes drafted Alexis Hopkins, there came a news about another female player to sign a contract with a team in Atlantic League. This time it’s 23 year old pitcher and American national player Kelsie Whitmore, who signed with Staten Island FerryHawks on Thursday.
Whitmore was a part of the national team who won a silver medal at the World Cup in 2014 and the team that wont 2015 Pan American Games. Between 2014 and 2019 she amassed 1.35 ERA for the national team. It is interesting to note that beside outstanding pitching, she also has power at bat, as Whitmore finished 2019 Pan American Games with BA .348. We can hence assume the fans will be able to see her in the offense as well as on the mound.
It is currently not certain in what capacity will the young pitcher appear on the team, but everything might become clearer soon, as the Spring Training starts for FerryHawks on 11st of April, with the regular season beginning on 22nd of April against Charlestone Dirty Birds.
