EU: Czech trio helped their teams to wins
There were three Czech players playing in the European baseball leagues and all three of them had a huge share in their clubs‘ wins.
Jan Tomek played for Legionäre when they faced München-Haar on Friday. Czech pitcher threw last 4 innings, without allowing any hits or walking anyone. He also striked out 5 batters. Since his team was leading 2-0 when he stepped on the mound, Tomek also got a save.
Jiří Vavruša didn’t play on the mound for ASAK Athletics in Austrian Bundesliga this time. But he played as a pinch hitter when his team faced Diving Ducks and afterwards remained on the first base. Vavruša also had a lion share in his team comback from 3-5 to final 9-8. In his first AB in seventh inning he scored in the fourth run of Athletics. In the ninth inning, when his team was 4 runs behind, Ducks defense made an error after his contact and Czech player added another RBI to his statistics. Furthermore, he scored the tying run after a homerun from Sammy Hackl. Hackl then score the winning run in the tenth inning.
David Mergans played in the second game of a doubleheader against Zirart Fossano. Young pitcher was sent in in the fourth inning, when their opponent loaded the bases with two outs. Furthermore, Milano’s starter had to leave due to an injury and so Mergans had very little time to stretch. In the end, he resolved the situation with a strikeout. He then continued to throw 3.1 innings, helping his team to 13-3 win.
