EXL: Jakub Malík historically the third player with 900 hits

After two games withthout a hit, experience Jakub Malík finally reached an important milestone. As a third player in the history of Czech baseball Extraliga he now has 900 hits to his name.

Malík started his run on the milestone in the previous series against Technika Brno, where he got to 899 with two hits in the second game of the series. However, he had to wait till the second game of the series against Sokol Hluboká to get his 900th hit. It came in his second at bat, as he was walked in his first. He probably didn’t know at the time, but he would get into the batting box again in the same inning. By the time he got to his 2nd at bat, Arrows turned the score from 0-1 to 7-1 in the inning. Malík got his 900th hit while no runners were on the bases with two outs. Thirty seven year old then put himself into the pitch from Kremin and blasted it behind the fence. Solo homerun didn’t only mean his 900th hit, but also the substitution of Sokol’s pitcher.

Jakub Malík became the second Arrows player to reach 900 hits. His teammate Aleš Navrátil recently reached 1100 of them, thanks to which he’s a historical leader in the statistic. The second place belongs to Pavel Budský.
