EXL: Tempo and Nuclears came closer to TOP 6

Czech Extraliga continued with six games on Saturday. And at the end of the day we discovered three series winners.

Sokol Hluboká – Tempo Praha 3-7 and 1-2

Home team played a doubleheader against Tempo in southern Czechia. Prague team is at the second spot in the standings for some time now and two wins at Hluboká would help them keep it. Tempo started with Marek Minařík, who pitched an excellent game, where he only allowed two hits and one run in six innings. He also gave his team a lead with a two run homerun in the first inning. However, it was the seventh inning that proved to be decisive, when home team substituted William Parsons for Scott Mulhearn. His pitching style was just what the visitors looked for it would seem, as they build a four run lead.

Hluboká started their new player in Villa Kermin for the second game. Colombian pitcher showed he would be able to fill the place after Boyce, when he didn’t allow any runs in six innings. Jake Rabinowitz was going in a similar way, however, only allowing one run in six innings. The same as in the first game, it was the seventh inning that decided the winner. Hluboká sent in David Šťastný against whom Filip Smola scored a two run homerun. Ondřej Vank then closed the game without allowing the home team any runs in three innings he pitched. After the Saturday games Tempo is certain to win the series. With 9 wins they should also be able to get to TOP 6.

Třebíč Nuclears – Technika Brno 5-2 and 7-6

A doubleheader between home Nuclears and Technika Brno was played at Vysočina on Saturday. Home team had a huge motivation to win both games, as doing so would get them much closer to TOP 6. And they managed to do just that, even though the wins didn’t come easy. Třebíč started well in the first game, building a 5-0 lead in the first three innings. Afterwards, Ryan Johnson, who was throwing his best game of the season. He threw 8 innings, only allowing 2 runs and striking out 12 batters. Jeffrey Barto then closed the game.

The fans had to wait until the fourth inning to see the first run being scored, after Mário Gottschall hit a solo homerun. Home team then made two errors in defense and Technika was leading 3-0. However, Třebíč managed to come back with huge sixth and seventh inning, taking the 6-4 lead. Jeffrey Barto entered the game in the eight inning to once again close it. But this time it wasn’t as easy, when Matěj Netopilík scored in the fifth run, for him to score the tying run thanks to Marek Rejman.

Třebíč hence had two half innings to get the lead back. But Technika sent Luis Rengel on the mound. In the end, home team managed to score against him, after they first loaded the bases for Kamil Pejchal to be walked afterwards. Nuclears won their eight game of the season, which should be enough for TOP 6.

Arrows Ostrava – Eagles Praha 3-9

After winning on Friday, Arrows had a chance to win the second series of the season. But it was Eagles who entered the game better, after Martin Červenka scored in the first run. Visitors then added 3 more runs in the fourth inning and chances of the home team didn’t look bright. Furthermore David Wilson on Eagles mound was throwing well, when he only allowed 1 runs in 6.1 IP. Eagles then sent in Mikuláš Hanuš to close the game. He allowed two runs in in the eight inning and Arrows were only one run away from tying the game.

Eagles managed to load the bases against Arrows starter Matěj Satoria with only one out. Ostrava then sent in Alexandr Šín. But his defense didn’t help him much and thanks to an error, Eagles scored 5 runs. Home team was unable to respond and so they lost 9th from their last 12 games. Furthermore, they were only able to score 3 runs from 12 runs. The series winner will hence be decided in Eagles Park on Sunday.

Draci Brno – Hroši Brno 9-1

Hroši picked John Kennedy, who didn’t play in the previous week due to back injury, for the second game of Brno derby. But he only threw 2 innings before Hroši reached for their bullpen. And that was just the jolt of power home team needed, as Draci scored 9 runs against them. One of the runs was scored by Martin Schneider, for whom it was the first game for Draci this season. He is also expected to play for them in Champions Cup in June.

Pitcher Gillian Wernet gave the home team solid 7 innings, without allowing any runs and striking out 7 batters. Hroši first scored against Jan Nebenführ, who also only allowed in run.
