First league: Jablonec still first. Prague derby was undecided
The second highest baseball league saw the fourth round being played last weekend.
Hippos Brno – Olympia Blansko 3-6 and 2-3 (10 inn.)
There were very important games when it came to chances to play in Promotion league being played in Blansko, where Olympia faced Hippos. And both games were close. In the first game, home team could rely on Jakub Kostka, who only allowed 3 runs in 8 innings and striked out 9 batters. In the offense, it was Filip Fabian who only missed a homerun to get Cycle.
The second game was much closer, as it went to extra innings before the winner was decided. Both starting pitchers, Jan Kucin (Hippos) and Jan Svoboda (Olympia). threw an excellent game, only allowing 2 runs each, and striking out 8 batters. The score was tied at 2-2 after eight innings. Hippos then didn’t managed to score any runs in the tenth inning, and so Blansko snatched the win with a walk-off hit from Ladislav Kabeš.
Pelikans Bučovice – Blesk Jablonec 1-12 (7 inn.) and 3-18 (5 inn.)
The biggest favorite of the First League arrived to Bučovice and their dominance showed in the results, when the doubleheader only saw 12 innings being played. Jablonec scored 30 runs altogether. It was especially their leadoff Matyáš Fous, who added 8 hits and 7 RBI to his statistics. Furthermore, Blesk used only two pitchers, who striked out 15 batters. Jablonec now has 7 wins after 8 games and is 4 games above the fifth.
Kotlářka Praha – SaBaT Praha 4-8 and 15-0 (6 inn.)
The First League also saw Prague derby over the weekend, thanks to Kotlářka and SaBaT. The fans who came to Na Markétě saw two different games. In the first SaBaT could rely on Kryštof Dupal who threw a complete game, only allowing 4 runs. Kryštof Kavan then had 4 RBI helping SaBaT to the win.
And it was Kryštof Kavan who started the second game on the mound for SaBaT. Kotlářka put their faith into Vojtěch Vlach and it was faith well placed as SaBaT batters found it difficult to hit against him. Furthermore, SaBaT defense made 7 errors during the game, not helping their pitcher too much. In the end, the second game only saw 5 innings being played, as Kotlářka got 15 run lead and the game was wrapped up due to the mercy rule. Prague derby hence finished with each team taking one win, which is better for Kotlářka in the long run as they kept the second place in the standings. On the other hand, SaBaT has to start winning in the upcoming games, especially in their next series against Blansko.
