First League: Weekend with only two games. Blesk announced another foreign signing.
The second highest baseball league had only two games scheduled for the previous weekend, when Hippos played the series against Pelikans.
Pelikans Bučovice – Hippos Brno 7-9 and 12-0 (8 inn.)
Bučovice saw the series between the two teams which won’t compete for Extraliga this season. In the end, both teams took a win each. Home team had to come from behind when Hippos scored three runs. Brno team managed to increase their lead to 9-0 in the seventh inning. However, the bottom half of the inning was opened by Leonardo Paredes’s solo homerun and it kickstarted the home bats. Pelikans came just short to turn the result to the win, and in the end lost by 2 runs. Jakub Čudovský from Hippos only need a double to get Cycle, but his hit in the ninth inning was caught by an infielder.
The second game was a whole different story, when Jiří Foitl Jr. scored in the first run for Pelikans in the first inning. The score remained unchanged until the sixth inning, as Vojtěch Koudelka and Jan Kucin kept their opponents short. Home starter threw the complete game in the end, only allowing 2 hits. Hippos substituted Kucin in the seventh inning and Pelikans were able to score 9 runs in two innings against Hippos bullpen, ending the game prematurely.
Blesk announced another foreign signing
Blesk Jablonec announced another foreign signing by the end of the First League regular season. Venezuelan pitcher with Colombian passport Ramon Ulacio, arrives to northern Czechia. Thirty-one year old player has 4 seasons in St. Louise Cardinals minors organization to his name. There he threw 186 innings, with ERA 4.55 and 124 SO. His last season in MiLB was in 2012. He then moved to Latin America, to play outside of American continent for the first time in 2018, when he played in South Korea. He joined an independent league team Journeyman there, throwing 62.2 innings with ERA 2.87. In the previous year he played his first season in Europe. First he played in German Bundesliga, where he didn’t have a good year for Mannheim and so both sides decided to terminate the contract. Ulacio then moved to French Division 1, playing for Rouen Huskies. There he played one game against Paris, where he threw 2.2 innings as a reliever, allowing 4 run (3 earned). He finished the season in Switzerland for Lucerna. There he had ERA 1.93 in 14 IP. His goal will now be to help Jablonec back to Extraliga.
