Globetrotters won PBW. Czechs finished third
The last day of Prague Baseball Week was affected by weather. Only one game, out of five planned, was played in the end. Czechs didn’t get a chance to play for the finals spot and in the end finished thrid. Hakusoh Globetrotters took the overall win in the tournament.
Hakusoh Globetrotters which came out of project International Stars, was already at PBW five times. This year Globetrotters didn’t lose any games, where they managed to beat Czech Prospects in the group stage. In the finals, they rely on their pitching, which only allowed two hits to Spaniards, and only one run thanks to a homerun from Wander Encarnación. Globetrotters were leading 6-0 at that point, thanks no small part to Brandon Marshall, who had 3 RBI.
Czechs finished third
Home national team finished third in the end, after they were unable to play for the finals spot. Czechs prolonged their wait for the tournament win, after the last one came in 2015. „There’s a saying: We don’t care about what we can’t change,“ said national team manager Pavel Chadim at the press conference. „We hoped for a different resolution. But it’s the same at different tournaments.“
Beside that, he also mentioned that Czechs team has areas to work on before September qualifications. New managed also described these areas as the team will attempt to work on the before World Baseball Classic before the qualification. „There’s a lot of it. We are not 100% sure what team we will have. We have six players in the United States and eight players down with illness. At least a half of the team was missing. We need to improve our RBIs.“
