EC U18: Slovaks beat Romania to start the qualification
Slovak U18 national team started their qualification in Trnava for European Championship this week. The first team they faced was Romania.
Young Slovaks took an early lead in the first inning when Timon Nespala scored in the first run. An inning later Jakub Jankovič and Matej Škerlec increased the Slovak lead.
Slovakia started Samuel Holekši on the mound, who pitched an excellent game, only allowing 2 runs to Romania. While Romania scored two runs, both of these were due to a defensive error.
Slovak added 6 runs in the fourth and the fifth inning and the game finished early on mercy rule. They had 12 hits, half of which went to Škerlec and Jankovič. Matej Škerlec also had 3 doubles.
Slovakia won the first game on the tournament. Young players will continue on Tuesday against Belgium, who won 7-6 against Croatia.
