JLWS: Young Czechs will play in International Final

While slightly away from the spotlight, Junior League World Series is currently being played in USA. And young Czechs are, so far, playing fantastically, as they play in the International Final. They thus get a chance to become the best international team of the tournament.

Czechs didn’t start the tournament the way they wanted after they lost 0-18 to Asia-Pacific team represented by Taiwan. Czechs, represented by Region South, dropped to loser bracket and they couldn’t afford to lose anymore. However, they journey went without a hitch since then. First, they beat Australia 3-2 and they could be the first Czech team to win two games at the tournament. But they needed to beat Mexico first. They were able to do just that, taking the 9-2 win.

In the following round Czech team faced Latin America, namely Curacao. Czechs had an excellent pitching in Matyáš Takeda, who threw 6.1 innings and only allowed 1 run, while striking out 8 batters. European team decided the game with 2 runs in the third inning. Vít Ventruba then closed the game as he striked out the remaining two batters, earning Save.

Czech team is thus the first team from Europe-Africa region to win at least three game at the tournament. They will continue on Saturday when they play International Final, once again facing Taiwan. Their opponent is yet to lose a game, and furthermore, they are yet to allow any runs being scored against them. Were Czechs to win, they would play in the final of League World Series. The games are available live at ESPN.
