TWBL: Third season started over the weekend
Taiwan Women’s Baseball League (TWBL) started its third edition over the weekend. Twelve teams will play 66 games over 11 weekends, with the top team advancing to playoffs where they get to play for the title.
It is now 20 years since women’s baseball started at Taiwan and the continuous popularity of women’s team, be it in TWBL or mixed men and women leagues show, the sport in the country is heading in the right direction. The first day of TWBL was played at Tianmu Baseball Stadium, the field of professional CPBL team Wei Chuan Dragons. The international impact of the league was on display as 2nd WBSC Vice-President Bryan Minniti and Executive WBSC Vice-President and Baseball Federation of Asia president Jeffrey Koo Jr. both attended the opening ceremony. „It is an important milestone for the upcoming 20 years,“ said Honorary President of Taiwan Women’s Baseball Advocate Association (TWBAA) Szu-Yao Wu before the first pitch.
There are 12 teams playing in the third edition, similar to the previous season. We don’t get to see Hong Liang, who were renamed and are now Rakuten.
Rakuten and High Match are the only two teams who remain undefeated after the first week. Rakuten beat Sunday (3-2) and Lightning (1-16), while High Match won against Sunflower (9-8) and Anytime Fitness (15-3). The games were also streamed online are can be viewed via Youtube.
