WEC: Czechs beat Netherlands to play in the finals
After winning against the defending, Czechs faced the 2019 silver medalists from Netherlands. The win would send Richard Kania’s team to the finals on Saturday.
Czechs started the game well, scoring 4 runs in the first inning. However, the starting pitcher Eva Ventrubová lost her pitching control with two outs in the bottom half of the inning and she was then substituted after three walks. Miluška Šprdlíková came in for her, but unfortunately, she too was unable to stop the Netherlands offense right away and thus their opponents took the lead with 6 scored runs.
Fortunately for the Czech Republic Šprdlíková, followed by Karolína Blažková, both found their composure and they wouldn’t allow many walks for the rest of the game. It was especially Blažková who had an excellent game where she didn’t allow any hits or runs in three innings pitched. She added to her performance with the historically first homerun of the Czech women’s team after she scored inside-the-park-homerun.
Czech baseballers scored 16 runs in the 5th and 6th inning, which meant they got a substantial lead. Blažková then closed the game, which finished early on score difference.
Czechs thus added another win after earning their historically first win a day before. Furthermore, this was also the first win, which finished the game early. The win itself ensured they will play in the finals on Saturday, where they meet France.
