Czechs lost the first friendly against Germany to kick off preparation for WBC

Czech team played a friendly game against Germany on Tuesday, to prepare for World Baseball Classic qualification.

Germans want to succeed at the tournament they host and so they brought a strong team to Prague, with players with MLB experience. But it was Daniel Aldrich, who only got as far as Yankees Single A, that gave Germany the lead with a solo homerun. At that moment, few knew this would be the only run of the game.

Pitchers then dominated the rest of the game, as they only allowed combined 6 hits. Two of them came from Czechs, both thanks to Martin Červenka.

Czechs had several pitchers in the game. Starter Marek Minařík threw 5 innings, striking out 5 batters. Jeffrey Barto, Michal Kovala and Lukáš Hlouch then finished the game.

Pavel Chadim’s team narrowly lost to Germany to kick off the series of friendlies. They will play another game on Wednesday afternoon.
