College Baseball: Marek Chlup was on fire on Houston Astros‘ field
College baseball season started in United States and the same as in the previous years, Czech baseball has their players in the mix. However, it was only Marek Chlup who got to play competitive games over the weekend.
North Greenville University entered the season with three games at Minute Maid Park, the home stadium of Houston Astros. As it turned out, Marek Chlup could catch an eye of MLB scouts, as his showed a solid performance and had his hands in all three NGU wins. In the first game against Central Missouri he recorded 3 hits from 4 AB. In the game against Arkansas Tech Chlup blasted a 3 run HR in the first inning, lowering his team’s deficit to 3-4. Later he added one more hit, helping NGU to 11-9 win.
NGU played the third game against Cal State Chico on Sunday. Chlup entered the game in the sixth inning, while the score was tied at 4-4 and a runner on base. Chlup was intentionally walked, but the batter who followed him blasted a three run homerun, giving NGU 7-4 lead. Chlup then got to bat one more time, in the 8th inning, and he got a hit out of AB. NGU won 7-6 and recorded a successful start of the season.
Pitt University with Martin Zelenka was supposed to play 2 games over the weekend, however, these were postponed.
