EXL: Arrows Ostrava will have two Slovak national players

Foreigners team limits seem to be especially cruel to Slovak players recently, who are continually pushed away from Extraliga clubs and replaced by players from overseas. But now it seems Ostrava will have different plans this season.

More famous of the two Slovaks is Mário Gottschall who comes on loan from Technika Brno. Twenty four year old catcher played 5 seasons in Extraliga, either for Technika, or Jablonec. He played 105 games so far, with BA .287 and OBP .331.

The second newcomer is Michal Puškár who played 2 seasons for Hroši, but he only got to playe 14 games. There he threw 32 innings with ERA 8.16 and BA .286. He didn’t make the cut for Extraliga team and this played in the First League for Hippos. There he played 9 games in the regular season with BA .176 and ERA 12.10 in 9.7 innings. He, however, played much more in Slovak Extraliga for Trnava, where he also had much more success, as his BA passed .500, He also pitched 36.1 innings with ERA 8.73.

Besides the two mentioned, Arrows also have Marko Vykoukal who has Slovak passport and played for Slovak national team at 2021 European Championship, as well as in the qualification for EC in the previous year. As any team can only have 4 foreigners on their roster, these signings mean Ostrava won’t have more than 2 players from outside Slovakia and Czech Republic. The rumors claim Ostrava might not even look for such players, but only time will tell.
