EXL: Will Martin Mužík break Pavel Budský’s record?

Legend of Czech baseball and Hall of Famer Pavel Budský retired from his playing career in the previous season. He currently holds a number of records, including like the most watched one, in number of homeruns. Looking at active players in pursuit, it’s thirty eight year old Jakub Malík and afterwards Martin Mužík who have the highest chance to catch up with him. But can Sokol Hluboká’s player get over 165 homeruns?

Martin Mužík is currently in the sixth spot in number of homeruns, as he blasted 78 balls behind the fence. In the previous season he added 6, but unfortunately for him Hluboká didn’t get to TOP 6, otherwise he would be likely to get over 80 HR line. He was able to get 8 HR in 21 games in Promotion League, however, these are not counted towards Extraliga statistics.

Sokol player has 9 seasons in Extraliga. Twenty six year old can get 10 more without a doubt, and were he to keep his level of performance, reaching 150 HR shouldn’t be a problem.

Mužík already has 9 more HR than Budský had in his age. Budský then had his best homerun career when he turned twenty seven, as he had 19 of them. However, when wooden bats became mandatory Budský’s number declined and he only reached 10 or more HR two times afterwards.

Statistics also lean towards Mužík, who has .295 HR/G. Budský finished with .202 HR/G, however, the number of games played by the legendary player are unknown and thus this number is only informative.

So what does Martin Mužík need to overtake Budský? To play 10 more seasons in Extraliga. Advancing from Regular Season will also give him more opportunities to rack up more numbers. But more importantly, he needs to stay healthy. If everything works out, the author of the highlight reel homerun from WBC game between Czech Republic and China will one day take the first spot in the historical statistics.
