College Baseball: Marek Chlup named Player of the Week
There were 5 Czechs playing college baseball in the previous week. Furthermore, Marek Chlup was named Played of the Week in his region.
Daniel Padyšák played in a duel against Radford on Saturday. He entered the game in the seventh inning, and was task to keep 8-6 lead. He was unable to so after he allowed a runner on a first base to score and when Radford tied the game in the eighth inning. In the end Padyšák earned the win anyway, as his teammates picked him up and scored 3 runs in the ninth inning. Czech pitcher didn’t allow any runs in the bottom half of the inning and Charleston Southern won 11-8.
Marek Chlup got his first award of the year from National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Association picked him as the Player of the Week for 3th-9th of April. And he was asking for the accolade again in the previous week, when he had 6 hits in 6 games, two of which were homeruns. Chlup currently has 11 HR to his name. Czech leads SLG (.851), OBP (.525), and OPS (1.376) statistics within the conference. He’s currently third in Conference Carolinas in BA (.427).
Martin Zelenka played two games for Pitt Community against Lenoir. In the first one he had a double and 2 RBI, despite his team losing 4-8. In the second he made his mark on a 8-2 win, when he reached a base in each of his at bats. Two times it was after a hit and two times after a walk. He currently has BA .395.
Tomáš Říčný and his Northeastern Junior College played 5 games during the week, take 3 wins. Říčný threw an inning, where he allowed a run. Offensively, he finished the week with his sixth HR of the season.
Marcus Weinzimer played for Santa Barbara as a substitute catcher against Moorpark. He didn’t get any hits for 2 AB, but he could still celebrate 8-7 win.
