EXL: Hroši Brno won a nearly lost game with a walkoff
There was only one Extraliga game played on Sunday, but it offered more than enough engagement. In the end it was the home team that came on top.
Hroši Brno were on the top of Extraliga standings before entering the game, however, Tempo wouldn’t let them have an easy one. Prague team needed the win and we could see it from the very beginning. Thanks to RBI single from Martin Červenka and a two run homerun from Keibert Petit, Tempo scored 3 runs in first two innings. However, starting pitcher Matěj Netopilík didn’t allow them more and Hroši could kickstart their comeback.
First, in the bottom of the second inning, they lower the deficit, for them to scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and they sent Adonai Gutierrez packing. Home team kept the two run lead until the ninth inning and they were only 3 outs from celebrating the win.
However, everything changed in the last inning. Hroši sent John Hussey on the mound and Tempo found a way against him pretty quickly. After a defensive error, Prague team decreased Hroši lead to 5-6. Then Marek Minařík showcased his power and gave Tempo 8-6 lead with a three run homerun.
Now it was up to Tempo to get 3 outs and win. And they sent in Jhonny Duran to do the job. He started well and Lukáš Trunkát grounded out. But Jan Pospíšil and Tomáš Ondra then followed with two doubles, which meant Tempo was now only one run ahead. Hroši had a tying run at the second base. Marek Minařík substituted Duran and his task was to calm down the situation. But he hit James Jensen with his second pitch and Tempo’s prospects started to look bleak. Then came an excellent defensive performance from Viktor Hluchý after which Tempo only needed one out for the win. However, baseball can be beautiful and cruel at the same time. And this time it were the visitors who pulled the shortest straw. David Fiala sent the ball flying behind the fence of the left field and gave Hroši a walkoff win. Despite almost losing the game in the ninth inning, Hroši managed to come back and snatch the win.
Hroši won another series and they only lost 2 out of 9 games they played so far. Thanks to this they are at the top of Extraliga table.
