EXL: Martin Červenka can break Jiří Víšek’s record
A huge news came in winter after Eagles announced national team catcher Martin Červenka would change the team. And the surprise didn’t stop after it was revealed he would play for Tempo instead. After long 14 years, Červenka returned and as expected he is one of the leaders of the team. One of the indicators is the number of RBI, currently sitting at 26, which is the most in the league.
Furthermore, he is also headed towards breaking the current RBI season record, which is held by Jiří Víšek who had 81 of them from 39 games in 2000. If we only consider the games where wooden bats were used, the leader would be Matěj Hejma who had 80 RBI in 42 games for Eagles in 2016.
Tempo catcher currently averages 2.36 RBI per game, which is much more than either Víšek or Hejma had. If Červenka continues at this pace, he will finish with 92 RBI after 39 games. But for that he will need his team to get into TOP 6 and for he to play all their games, as that would give him 41 games. If Tempo reaches the playoffs, he could play in as many as 50 games and become the first player in history to have 100 RBI in the season.
Name | RBI | Year | |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Víšek Jiří (EAG) | 81 | 2000 |
2. | Hejma Matěj (EAG) | 80 | 2016 |
3. | Joyce Terrell (ARR) | 78 | 2018 |
4. | Víšek Jiří (EAG) | 75 | 2001 |
5. | Lawman Matthew Desmond (TECH) | 73 | 2012 |
If Tempo playes more than 50 games, Červenka could hypothetically also equal the homerun record, which is held by Terrell Joyce who had 29 HR from 53 games when playing for Arrows Ostrava in 2018. Joyce averaged 0.547 HR per game, while Červenka currently averages 0.545 HR per game.
Will we see another record broken by the man, who is surely headed to Czech Baseball Hall of Fame?
