First League: Hippos won their first game. Klasik still without a home success
Bad weather only allowed 4 games to be played over the weekend. And in all of them it was the visitors who took the win.
Pelikans Bučovice – Hippos Brno 0-10 (F/7) and 2-12 (F/7)
A surprising result happened in a doubleheader between First League’s two bottom teams, when visitors took both games. Hippos, despite losing 4 games to start the season, beat Pelikans by a difference, when they scored 22 games in 13 innings against them. Furthermore, the could rely on their pitchers, who only allowed 2 runs.
A talented Viktor Beránek threw 7 innings for Hippos, only allowing 3 hits and not walking anyone. Beside that he also striked out 6 batters. The entire lineup helped in the offense as each player had at least a hit. Furthermore, Marek Sláma added a homerun. Thanks to this Hippos took the first game 10-0.
The second game saw Brno start a young pitcher, too. This time it was Marek Štefka. He threw 3 innings, in which he didn’t allow any hits, however, he often didn’t get ahead of the count and walked 4 batters. Bučovice managed to score one run. Hippos didn’t need to be bothered, however, as they themselves scored 6 runs in 3 innings.
Michal Klimeš had a good game at bat, when he had 5 RBI for Brno team, two of which came thanks to a homerun in the third inning. This steered the team to another decisive win, this time 12-2, when Martin Gieci added 2 RBI in the seventh inning to finish the game on mercy rule.
Hippos added two wins and overtook Bučovice in the table, and so they still get a chance to fight for Promotion League.
Klasik Frýdek-Místek – Blesk Jablonec 0-4 and 2-8
The second home doubleheader won’t be a pleasant memory for Frýdek-Místek either. The same as a week before they were unable to win either game and only scored 2 runs in 2 games.
The first game was close, when both starters kept the opposing batters in check. Visitors took advantage of a defensive error in the third inning and took 1-0 lead. The fans had to wait till the seventh inning for more runs, but it was the visitors once again who were able to score. Home team helped them once again with an error. Jablonec took advantage and build a solid lead with 3 runs. Furthermore Jiří Hikl had an excellent day on the mound as he threw a complete game shutout, which was his career’s first.
Blesk started the second game where they ended the first one and scored 3 runs in the first inning. This was instrumental, as Klasik’s bats were not having a good day and they only scored 2 runs for the remainder of the game. This, naturally, couldn’t be enough to get them a win. Klasik is not getting much of a production in the offense from their more experienced players, and after 3 rounds it is 15 year old Matyáš Novotný (AVG .333) who is their best player. The second is nineteen year old Richard Omelka with BA .313. That’s why Frýdek-Místek didn’t succeed in their second series.
Blesk, on the other hand, now shares the second spot of the table, however, only three teams currently played the whole 3 rounds.
