UK: Third edition of Women’s Baseball League starts. Last year’s finalists welcome London and Bristol
Third edition of Great Britain’s Women’s Baseball League begins over the weekend. This year under British Baseball Federation, we get to see seven teams fight for the title. The first round begins over the weekend with games within group South, starting at 12:00 CEST.
We get to see one fewer team when compared to the previous season, as Nomads, team of players without a core team, who forfeit the season last year, didn’t sign up. Still the league will see a number of teams with national team players face each other. Great Britain thus continues to build their women’s baseball in a bid to improve their chances in the upcoming European Championship.
The first round will be opened at Farnham Park where Belles, who reached the finals in both previous season face London Mayhem. Mayhem only narrowly missed the spot in the finals last season as they finished 1 game behind Belles. The second game will be played right after the first one, when Mayhem play against Bristol Bobcats, who field national players Rebecca Cottrell and Artie Herbert. The end will be wrapped up with a game between Bobcats and Belles.
Schedule for group North is currently not available, but we can already see reigning champions from Sheffield Bruins signed up for this season as well. They will be joined by Long Eaton Lightning, Telford 26ers, and The Leicester Diamonds. You can follow the games live at league’s page.
