EXL: Benches cleared in the game between Třebíč and Technika
Only one game was played in Extraliga on Wednesday. Nuclears won 7-3 against Technika, but the win was not the main talking point. Rather it was the bench clearing we got to see in the last inning.
The situation was started by a collision of visiting Daniel Mráz and home catcher Robin Vávra. Experienced player attempted to reach the home based and lower Technika’s deficit However, the ball got on the base much faster and Technika player rammed his opponent. It was a throwback to times when runner-catcher collisions were allowed, as an attempt to force catchers to drop the ball. However, current rules forbid such plays, especially due to concerns for catchers’ safety.
Players from both benches met at the home base and we could see several shoves. Umpire ejected Daniel Mráz, Robin Vávra, and Russell Strilchuk in the end. Managers of both teams remained on the pitch for a while after the game was over.
It is important to note that such situations are uncommon in Extraliga. We will see how Disciplinary committee approaches this.
Beside Mráz, Technika also lost their coach Martin Zelinka who argued referee Ondřej Beneš’ decisions in the fourth inning.
