EXL: Eagles signed German national team player
Extraliga’s Eagles Praha boosted their ranks before the end of regular season thanks to signing German national team pitcher Samuel Steigert.
Prague team entered the season well and are currently in the second spot with 9 wins and 6 loses. One of the weak points of the team was Venezuelan pitcher Jose Balaguera and Eagles decided to make a change with a much more experienced player, bringing Samuel Steigert.
Steigert played for Bonn Capitals for the past two seasons, playing in Champions Cup in 2021 and 2022. He was named Pitcher of Bundesliga North in 2021, finishing with ERA 0.87 in 20.2 IP. In the previous season he threw 14 innings with ERA 1.29. He played both seasons and Capitals reliever.
German also played in European Championship in 2021, where he threw 1.2 innings, allowing 1 run. Steigert was also part of German national team in the past two U23 World Championships. He played 5 seasons in NCAA for Auburn-Montgomery, where he threw 135.2 innings, with ERA 4.58 and 9 saves. His performance were improving and in the last seasons he had ERA 2.45, WHIP 0.900 in 36.2 innings.
He spent this winter playing for Port Adelaide Magpies Baseball Club in Australia. His team went to semifinals in Division I South Australia, where they lost to Henley&Grange. Steigert threw 93 innings for Adelaide, finishing with ERA 1.74 and 56 strikeouts. He also experience starting pitcher role for the first time in his career, where he started 12 of 17 games he played.
