EXL: Hroši won in Ostrava after a comeback in ninth inning
The game that was planned to be played on Tuesday, had to wait till Thursday in the end.
Home players entered the game knowing they won’t play in TOP 6 this year. They could take the game as a preparation for Promotion League, and upcoming Champions Cup in Netherlands. However, Tomáš Ondra on Hroši mound had a different idea. While he allowed one run in the second inning, he left the game to Marek Štefka while his team was 2-1 ahead.
Hroši were able to take the lead in the third inning, thanks to Tomáš Říčný who returned from USA. Boris Bokaj didn’t allow them more and Arrows pitchers that followed kept the score unchanged until the 8th inning.
In the bottom half of 8th Ostrava took the lead again, after Matyáš Kozel scored in a tying run for he to reach the home base after Radim Novotný’s hit. Arrows only needed three outs to get the win.
However, without playing even one, the game was tied in the following half inning. David Fiala opened the inning with a double and he then reached the home base after a throwing error from Pjontek. The second run came after a balk, third after Jan Pospíšil’s hit. But Pjontek’s struggles weren’t over, as he threw a wild pitch, after which Hroši scored sixth run. As young pitcher couldn’t close the inning, Ostrava sent in Aleš Navrátil to get the last out. While he did that, Hroši had a solid lead by the end of the half inning.
Home team only scored one run in the ninth, thus losing 4-9. Ostrava currently has 13 loses on the record and they are headed towards their worst season since 2010. With 11 win Hroši still have a chance to finish first in the regular season.
