Ventrubová became the first woman to play in First League
Fans watching Friday game between Olympia Blansko and Pelikans Bučovice witnessed a historical moment when Eva Ventrubová stepped to the batting box and became the first woman to play in First League.
Czech national team player entered the game in the 5th inning, when Pelikans were 7-14 behind. She showed patience in her first at bat and was walked, for her to reach the home base moments later.
Ventrubová remained in the game and finished the duel at 2nd base. She was in the batting box 2 more times, however, she will need to wait for her first hit. Pelikans managed to make the end of the game dramatic, when they tied the game at 15-15 in the 9th inning. However, Olympia managed to get a walk-off win after Jiří Grossmann reached the home base and so Ventrubová’s first game didn’t have a happy ending for her.
