Apollo Bratislava will host Federations Cup. Trnava will try to advance in Hungary
Six teams will face each other between 19th and 24th June on a field in Podunajské Biskupice, to get a chance to advance to 2024 Confederations Cup. Slovak champions Apollo Bratislava will be a part of it, as well.
Apollo will play their first game on Monday at 17:00 against Swiss team Challengers Zürich. They will play the rest of the games at the same time, playing against Austrian Dorbirn Indians, Swedish Rättvik BSK, Ukrainian CNTU-OSDYSSOR-Gorn, and Belgian Deurne Spartans. Team from Bratislava is not a favorite, but they are certainly not giving up just yet. „We will compete for a spot which would advance us to the top 18 of teams of the old continent against the teams from Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, and Ukraine,“ said playing coach of Apollo Martin Brunegraf for slovakiabaseball.com.
Apollo consists mainly of the home grown players. They are seconded by two American. Anthony Barreto is a known face for Apollo fans. On the other hand, pitcher Timothy Nixon only joined the team on May, after he finished his college season, where he played for North Central. He threw two innings in Interleague so far, where he allowed two runs.
Angels will play qualification
Since Slovakia has a team in one of the three main tournaments in Europe, they can play another in the qualification. And it will be the runner-ups from Trnava, who will start their qualification tournament on Thursday in Budapest. They will face hosts from Red Wolves and Romanian team CS Leaders Călărași. One win should be enough to advance Trnava to semifinals, where they could face one of group A teams from Zagreb, Sofia, Tempera, or Utenos.
