Apollo entered Federations Cup with a win against Zürich
Players of Apollo Bratislava have a successful start to Federations Cup after they beat Zürich 7-3 in the first game.
Bratislava pitcher James Kontur was in the middle of it all. He threw a complete game and only allowed three runs.
Reigning Slovak champions scored three runs in the first inning alone, after they loaded the bases without an out. With two sacrificial hits from Rudohradský and Horáček Apollo score two runs, for Anthony Barreto to bat in another one.
The score remained unchanged until the fourth inning. Adam Zacko batted in another run in the bottom half of the inning and this turned out the be the winning one. Their opponent found their rhythm in the second half of the game and started to threaten tying the game. In the end, Zürich only scored three runs, which wasn’t enough to get them a win. Apollo was much more efficient, scoring seven runs from seven hits, although they were helped with seven walks.
Slovak champions started the tournament with an important win. They will now playe against Dorbin Indians, who beat Swedish Rättvik 9-6 on Monday, thanks to a seven run first inning.
